New Jersey’s Plan for Achieving 100% Carbon-Neutral Electricity

July 29, 2020 @ 3:00 PM - 4:00 PM ET

In January, New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy released a detailed plan for how the state can achieve 100% clean energy by 2050. He had previously, in May 2018, issued an executive order that directed the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (NJ BPU) to convene an Energy Master Plan Committee that would produce a roadmap for meeting the 100% clean energy goal. The resulting 2019 New Jersey Energy Master Plan: Pathway to 2050 was produced by multiple state agencies. It “defines ‘100% Clean Energy by 2050’ to mean 100% carbon-neutral electricity generation and maximum transition to electrification of the transportation and building sectors by 2050….”

In this webinar, Hannah Thonet (Senior Policy Advisor at the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities), Chaz Teplin (Manager at Rocky Mountain Institute), and Jeremy Hargreaves (Principal at Evolved Energy Research) discussed details of the plan, including the strategies for reaching 100% clean energy, and described the process the state used for producing the plan.

This webinar was presented by CESA on behalf of the 100% Clean Energy Collaborative.
