Justice in 100% Clean Energy Policies: A Scorecard for Equity and Lessons from Washington State

July 28, 2021 @ 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM ET

In this Clean Energy States Alliance webinar, Subin DeVar from the Initiative for Energy Justice (IEJ) presented the Justice in 100: Scorecard, a rubric for evaluating 100% clean energy laws. The webinar focused on how state-level government agencies and regulatory decision-makers can use tools from this robust report in their day-to-day work. The tools range from a simple one-page framework to a 46-point worksheet of concrete policy mechanisms. The webinar also included a brief introduction to IEJ’s companion report, Justice in 100: Metrics, an inventory of equity metrics for the implementation of 100% clean energy policies.

To illustrate what energy equity policymaking looks like in practice, Mariel Thuraisingham from Front and Centered discussed the social justice dimensions of implementing Washington State’s Clean Energy Transformation Act (CETA). Front and Centered, a state-level coalition of groups led by communities of color, helped ensure CETA included specific equity requirements. Learn lessons gained from their participation in workshops, conversations, and comment opportunities led by the regulatory and oversight bodies charged with producing rules and tools that will keep utilities on track to meet transition targets.
