The PEAK Coalition Public Comments on Draft New York State Energy Plan

The PEAK Coalition (UPROSE, The POINT CDC, New York City Environmental Justice Alliance, Clean Energy Group, and New York Lawyers for the Public Interest) submitted comments to the New York State Energy Planning Board about their Draft State Energy Plan.

The comments convey deep concern for the Draft Energy Plan’s heavy reliance on expensive and unrealistic alternatives, such as hydrogen combustion and nuclear, to provide firm energy capacity in the future grid, as well as repowering existing gas combustion capacity throughout the state. The PEAK Coalition lists some recommended pathways for the State Energy plan, including adequately incorporating the Climate Act’s Scoping Plan, a Cap and Invest program, and a demand management program.
