Energy Resilience: How Solar+Storage Provides Backup Power for Affordable Senior Housing in Boston

Seniors in one affordable housing building in the Roxbury neighborhood of Boston now have access to resilient power, ensuring that residents can power their medical devices, mobility aids, and other necessities in the event of an outage.
With help from Clean Energy Group’s Technical Assistance Fund, the Kenzi apartments installed a rooftop solar array with battery energy storage. This not only keeps power flowing during an outage, it also reduces monthly electricity costs.
This video profiles the solar+storage installation at the Kenzi Apartments. It features interviews with Julie Klump, Vice President for Design and Building Performance at the Preservation for Affordable Housing (POAH) and Mary McDonald, a longtime resident of Roxbury and a new resident of the Kenzi.
