Comments on the Repeal of Greenhouse Gas Emissions Standards for Fossil Fuel-Fired Electric Generating Units

Clean Energy Group (CEG) submitted comments to U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) administrator Lee Zeldin in regards to Docket ID No. EPA-HQ-OAR-2025-0124. CEG refutes the EPA’s claims that fossil-fired electric generating units do not significantly contribute to greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions using the EPA’s own statistics. CEG also counters the EPA’s claim that there are no viable regulatory options for developing a Best System of Emissions Reduction (BSER) that would meaningfully and cost-effectively reduce GHG emissions. CEG concludes that the EPA’s proposal to not regulate GHG emissions would seriously impact public health and welfare, disproportionately harming the 54 million Americans living within three miles of a peaker power plant.
